A Day on Pender V1

Here is an example of a day on Pender while staying at WOODS.  Saturday in June.

  1. Wake up at 7am to the sound of birds chirping.  It is so quiet.  I think I might get up but stay lying there reconsidering getting out of bed.
  2. 7:30am finally get out of bed.  Get my robe on.  Get the kettle on for a batch of French press coffee with Fernwood Coffee Co. beans.
  3. Go outside to sit beside the hot tub.  Decide to take a dip.
  4. 8:45am kinda getting hungry.  Go inside and get dressed and head down to Coffee + Kitchen for their 9am opening.
  5. Order my cappuccino and a cinnamon bun.  Sit outside on the deck and chill pondering the next move.
  6. 10:00am I think I may head to the Farmers Market.  Get the car and drive the 6 mins and go have a look.  Pick up some snacks, a bar of Pender made soap, a wood bowl from Dara Woodworks, some fresh herbs.
  7. Next up heading to the Nu to Yu Thift Store down the street from the Farmers Market.  Can’t believe how cheap it is.  It is like the old Thrift Stores before they became over popular and expensive.  Pick up some vintage glassware.
  8. It is now close to lunch.  I head over the Hope Bay to Pender Chocolates.  I know it’s before lunch but priorities are what they are.  Pick up a box for later with a few to eat immediately.
  9. Next up the Kim Pollard Fine Art Gallery to have a peek at local art.  Pick up a small painting.
  10. Now really hungry so head to the Hub at Hope Bay for a glass of wine and some small plates and enjoy the view.
  11. Now I am full of lunch, wine and chocolates.
  12. Think it is time for a quick beach walk then maybe back to the hot tub and a snooze.
  13. I head to the Pender Museum parking lot and have a quick look at the Museum.  Pender has an amazing history dating back over 150 years.  Didn’t realize the history on such a small island.  I walked out to the small peninsula to the white bench with the amazing arbutus tree and sit and watch the ferries come and go for 30 mins.
  14. I realize Sea Star Winery and Twin Island Cider are on my way back.  First up Sea Star.  Pick up a couple of bottles for later.  Twin Island on the way back.  Some amazing small batch ciders naturally fermented and was captivated by the story behind each cider.  Pick up a 6 pack for later.
  15. Heading back now to WOODS.  Get to my Airstream and unpack my daily haul.  Cider and a Sea Star Blanc de Noir in the fridge right away.
  16. Deck time now with a cold cider thinking now about another dip in the hot tub and a hammock book read.
  17. Decided on the hammock.  Fell asleep after the first two pages.  Woke up feeling so rested and now again a bit hungry.
  18. We had booked dinner at 6:30pm at Coffee + Kitchen and it was now 5pm.  Time to get up and get dressed.  Still time for a 20 min dip before dinner.
  19. Walked down the Coffee + Kitchen.  First up a Pender Sour.  Always have to have a whiskey sour when I try a new restaurant.  Ordered the Greens salad, a Salmon Pizza and a Vegan Platter.  Everything tasted like it was picked up from the farm that day and delivered on my plate.  Local farms like Ravenrock and Wilderwood were featured on the menu.  Had a bottle of Ursa Major Gamay Noir with dinner and a seasonal fruit tart for dessert.  Time also for a night cap negroni before heading back up top.  The negroni had all local BC spirits including my favourite Amaro from Woods Distillery back in North Vancouver where I live.
  20. Had to sit by the fire pit for an hour or so to digest all that food.  Sipped on some Twin Island Cider later with another dip in the hot tub before showering and heading inside to watch Netflix in my robe.
  21. Fell asleep after the first 3o mins and woke up really early Sunday morning at 6am to an Owl hooting.  Was absolutely quiet other than the Owl.  Was very cool.
  22. That was my first day/night at WOODS.
