Directions to Pender Island (Otter Bay Ferry Terminal)

Vancouver or Victoria to Otter Bay: BC Ferries is the most common transportation route to the Southern Gulf Islands. With regularly scheduled sailings, you can enjoy the sights while you sail to Pender Island. The ferries accommodate cars, trucks, motorcycles, bikes and walk-on passengers. Reservations are always recommended, especially on the direct Pender Island ferries. In addition to the direct Pender Ferries, you can sail via Victoria coming from Vancouver. Make sure you ask for a through fare when arriving at the Tsawwassen terminal.

NOTE: Pender Taxi is no longer in business. For now, no other public transportation is available on Pender Island. We recommend that you come prepared with a vehicle to transport yourself to and from WOODS.  

From Tsawwassen (Vancouver) to Otter Bay (Pender Island):

This ferry makes stops at Galiano and/or Mayne Islands depending on the season.  In the summer there is one direct non stop ferry per day.
A one-way trip is about 2.15 hours.  The direct ferry is just over an hour.  Reservations always recommended especially in peak periods.

From Swartz Bay (Victoria) to Otter Bay (Pender Island):

Most sailings are direct, though some will stop at Galiano or Mayne Island.
A one-way direct trip is about 40 minutes.  No reservations allowed so first come first on.  Peak periods required earlier arrival times.

Directions from Otter Bay to WOODS

Via Car
  1. Head northwest on Otter Bay Ferry Terminal toward MacKinnon Rd, take a slight right onto MacKinnon Rd.
  2. Turn right onto Otter Bay Rd for 1.5km and turn left to stay on Otter Bay Rd.
  3. Turn right onto Bedwell Harbour Rd for about 2km.
  4. Continue onto Bedwell Harbour Road which becomes Canal Rd
  5. After about 2km turn left to stay on Canal Rd. 
  6. WOODS on Pender Island will be on your right.
Via Pender Taxi

Pender Taxi is now permanently closed due to Covid-19 lockdowns.  For the time being, there is no taxi company on Pender Island. 

Via Car Stops

There are Car Stops around Pender including one just up from the Ferry Terminal as well as one right out front of WOODS.  They are a series of stops that residents pick up passengers around the Island (legal hitchhiking). 





Seair runs regularly scheduled service to Port Washington on South Pender Island.
